Schoolhouse 2
I am glad to (finally) announce the release of Schoolhouse 2. I believe I was able to catch all of the bugs for this release. I am so happy to finally be able to release it, considering it’s been under development since last August.
I hope everyone enjoys this version and continues to send me feature ideas and bug reports! You can grab the new version here.

Wow, this looks to be an amazing help with organizing schoolwork. We actually homeschool our kids, but they take several supplementary classes from outside sources. This seems like just the ticket to get that part of our life organized. We’ll check it out and donate if it fits the bill! Thanks for the hard work with crafting an excellent tool.

Hey Logan:
I go to a school that uses Edline, I was wondering if you could work that into there and be able to import grades from Edline. I have developed a Cocoa Plugin to do it, if you would like the source to that.

Saw your software on MacUpdate. Very elegant looking. Great work. Too bad I graduated last May.

hurrah =) I love the new version. I just want to point out one thing which might be a bug, which is that if I try to attach files and I use the “link only” option instead of the “attach file” option, the program seems to lock up and from then on, the Files tab of that assigment does’t seem to work.

Schoolhouse 2 is perfect and the website looks great! I think you need to put a border=”0″ around the head_home.png image though. You probably can’t see it in Safari, but it shows up in Firefox and IE.

All the data from the previous version disappeared with the update to the new version. The welcome screen is checked off to import legacy data. But nothing happens. I see an XML file under Application Support, but it won’t import from that. Advice?
Thanks.

I just downloaded this from VersionTracker.com, and I simply have to say that I love it. It is helping me so much with organizing my school assignments and, well, simplifying my life, lol. Keep up the good work!

This looks great, good work! And after a little more snooping, good work going to KU too. I miss it (in Manhattan, these days…)

Wow, I just discovered this program on Apple’s download page, and it’s really awesome. Hopefully this will solve my procrastination problem. Thanks man.

Thanks for releasing Schoolhouse 2 it looks really great. I’m getting ready to start another quarter in school in a week so this will be great. I used Schoolhouse 1 and thought it was great. Can’t wait to use it this quarter.

Schoolhouse 2 is very useful. Thanks for all the new features! I haven’t found a bug yet after about a week of use, so good job on that end.
A couple of things I’d love to see:
I miss iCal export.
I want the priority of the assignment to depend on the percent of the final grade according to the syllabus. So instead of Not Important, Important, Very Important, I’d like a paper that is 50% of my final grade to heavily outweigh a 3 point reading assignment. Then I can sort by weight to visualize what I need to be working on right now to complete it by the due date (i.e. reading the little assignment the day before it’s due and researching the big paper a month and a half before it’s due).
Great app! Get the donations link fixed!

Tank you, I hope there will be some translations

Great program.
Some ideas…
-Have an ability to attach a syllabus to the specific course. Like you are doing for assignments.
-There seems to be a bug when altering the grade categories, The program will copy the last enterted text into any field I want to edit
-Allow the attachment of instructor supplied files for slides and notes to be attached.

Something needed:
All texas schools follow a simple grading scale: your grade is averaged from the average of daily grades and the average of major grades.
Currently schoolhouse is only able to have %.
There are 2 ways to fix this.
1. allow “sub courses/groups” for major and daily grades.
2. allow custom “macros” or “equations” that calculate grades from their “weight type”. i.e. ‘average of daily and major’ or more simply ‘(DAILY MAJOR)/2′
Another note:
1 term [semester ] is split into 2 halves and a semester exam. However, since sub-groups/terms are impossible, one must create the 2 halves and semester exam as separate term, and thus one cannot calculate his term grade.
The easiest way to fix this would be to allow “sub terms/courses/groups”. This would also fix the above problem as well. Also there would be a need to designate how to calculate grades form sub-terms. i.e. ‘.4*HALF1 .4*HALF2 .2*EXAM’
Keep on creating great software!
Thanks,
Pat

Loving the program. Just made the move over from Assignment Planner to this. I don’t really mind the exclusion of iCal Export, keeping everything in Schoolhouse just makes things more streamlined.

This is a wonderful program! I do my courses by distance education, and this is the perfect tool to organize my courses and make sure I get things done on time. It fits the bill perfectly!
Thanks, you made my life a lot easier by creating this program.
One question: The grades function, where it graphs the grades doesn’t seem to work. It displays an empty graph, despite my entering in my grades for all my assignments.

I’m having trouble with backups, and although I did send an email, I thought it’d be a good idea to post it here for everyone else. The Backups back up fine, as far as I can tell, but Schoolhouse crashes when trying to revert to them. I don’t think I’m running anything that can cause this to happen, but it happens every time. How about you?
well, gotta go,

Looks like a great program, but crashes on me every time I try to associate a course with an assignment, then all data is lost.

Yep, iCal support would be great! Maybe in the future theres more direct inclusion with the PIM functions of OS X.
If you include iCal dates somehow: Dates of the courses for using iCal/Schoolhouse as kinda “schedule” would be great… The basic dates of a course are somehow “useless” in Schoolhouse by now… (Maybe a schedule widget would then be nice as well??)
Tasks inside a course would be great as well, not only inside notes / assignments (you could easily forget about tasks the way they are handled now!!)
Maybe just handle course tasks like assignemnts: start and due date…
You could still have extra specific tasks inside assignments/notes (maybe with some indicator or reminder that there are tasks inside this notes element)
Integration in iCal here would be nice as well: Just add course tasks as iCal Tasks.
Courses could act like specific calendars in iCal…
Maybe you could put all the calender specific work outside schoolhouse and let iCal handle it.
(ok, database backups would be complicated, as data is stored in iCal then)
I also miss some basic functions using schoolhouse: drag and drop of items in general and between courses for example (ok, you can manually change the course what would do the same). This would be usefull if you have interconnected courses…
Direct renaming of notes, not only in the righthand sidebar…
And more “freedom” to change the interface layout would be nice (width of righthand sidebar for example)
But great job, well done, I like schoolhouse!
Thats the way apps should work on macs! Easy, smooth, yet powerfull.

Somehow I can’t add the course the a designated term “semester.”
It always go to Spring 2007 instead of others, even after I selected the targeted semester.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Looks great. I may have found a little bug though: I have added three courses with nothing in them, and when I try and resize the far left pane the programs partially locks up, the bottom pane disappears and nothing can really be done. Let me know when donating is back up as I would like to…

Great program, but I have run into a couple problems that some of you might be able to help me with. Is there a way to edit course information (instructors, scheduling, etc) after you have already submitted a new course? I can’t seem to find this anywhere, which is a problem because if I need to edit this information I have to delete the course and add it all again. Also, has anyone else ran into a few buggy interface problems when configuring the weighted grades when submitting a course?
Again, great program.

I’m not sure why, but the app quits when i try to designate a course for an assignment. how can i fix this? i’m running OS 10.4.9 on an ibook G4. otherwise i really like the app.

Good suggestions everyone! I hope he incorporates them in 2.2.

I would use this application all the time, except… no iCal export!
What I really yearn for in an application, is something that I can manage my school stuff with, but also gives me an alarm, and sends the info to my iPod, or iCal.
Posted by: Rupert | April 29th, 2007 05:11
Yes, I would also love to have it sync with ical and maybe have a calendar for all of schoolhouse or one for each class.
Thanks for schoolhouse,
Ryan

This is such a great program. I’m in grad school now and have been using it for everything and have recommended it to my friends!
I like its simplicity and ease of use. I enter all the information for a course off the syllabus at the beginning of the semester and no surprises later on, plus I get all my work done!
Two things I’d like to ask about: how can I change the types of assignments? I don’t do labs, but I do discussion board posts, etc. I’d like to be able to set my own assignment types. Also, at the beginning of the semester when I’m entering all the assignments I’d like to be able to enter the possible grade instead of waiting till I finish the assignment to have to go back to the syllabus to see how much it was worth.
Is anyone having problems publishing it? I’ve tried various methods, and ended up getting a .Mac account and when I try to publish that way it says error 404 file not found when I try to go to the site Schoolhouse says it published to. This program is great and since I’ve spent all the time entering in the assignments, I figured I should let my friends benefit and use my published courses.
Thanks again. Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong with my settings especially for publishing but also for assignment types. This is a great program!!!

I’m wondering if you could add another feature–instructor mode. Instead of having the option to add multiple instructors, the ability to add multiple students. My current workaround is to have a bunch of the same classes with each student’s name appended. I also have to clone all the assignments.
Many thanks.

if you could in any way try to integrate it with iCal? i can’t bring my computer to school with me so i bring my palm. when i sync my palm with all the assignments for the day, it’s only going to go to iCal. if you could find a way to sync the two together, that would be totally awesome!

Wow! This seems to be a piece of wonderfully useful software!
I haven’t used it so far (school only starts in three weeks), but I’ll definitely give it a whirl!
Thank you ever so much for your hard work! If the software works out for me, I’ll -definitely- make a donation! You deserve some help in your hard work!

I think this might be a big help for me to keep my online class work organized and together in one place… Much Thanks man, deff going to be sending some dead presidents your way, I have a question though, is it possible to change the week start day? I’d like to have my weeks start on thursday if possible… I seem to remember an option for this when i first started up the program?
Also, is there a support forum or something somewhere?
