New Blog Design

Friday, April 30th, 2010 at 4:06 p.m.

So I've been working this past week on a new design for my website, and this is the result. It's minimalistic, simple and clean. And yes, it's Helvetica.

I like Helvetica. In the right hands, of course. Helvetica is like a scalpel. It's a precision instrument that can carve out really cool designs. Comic Sans, however, is a chainsaw. It's only purpose is to bring annoyance and pain to as many people as possible simultaneously.

So yeah, that's my new blog in a nutshell.

Catching Up

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 at 10 p.m.

Ah, I do love Spring Break. Time off from homework, stress, and the weather is starting to get nice. It's not surprising that all I have done is sit around and do...well...nothing.

I'm kinda looking forward to going back to KU. I miss the atmosphere more than the homework, mind you, but still. I feel like there is so much more I could be doing going out and having fun instead of sitting home all day watching reruns of Stargate SG-1. Seems like this year's Spring Break was kind of lame. My friends and I have been talking about taking a trip somewhere next year, or even next semester on Fall Break, say to Cali. It'd be around $1,200 each (flight, hotel, meals, nightlife, etc.), but I think for a college life it'd be worth it to experience more than Kansas has to offer.

I've been seriously thinking about studying abroad in an upcoming year or semester. I think somewhere like Italy or elsewhere in Western Europe would be incredible. I don't know...do they even have programs for Programming majors for study abroad? I know they do, it just doesn't seem as flashy as say Architecture.

As for the developer side of my persona, I'm working on an update to Schoolhouse that should cover some bugs and add some features. On the bugs side I hope to have isolated the crash when assigning a course to an item, this was reported by a few people. Also the importing feature has been updated to support import of legacy data from other apps, namely Assignment Planner and Task List. Also I'm working on iCal and iPod Syncing. I hope to have the update ready within the next week or so.

Well, that should catch things up nicely. A month of my life in a minute and a half, and my kingdom for a Dr. Pepper.

Winding Down

Sunday, February 25th, 2007 at 4:53 p.m.

So I've finally find time lately to work on my projects. And then I lose that time. This past week I came down with...get this...mononucleosis and pneumonia. At the same time. Had to be hospitalized for a few days. Missed class. Feeling better now. Anyway, I am trying to get my life back on track. In my off time since I can't go back to college yet (something about infecting everyone I live with and causing widespread panic) I have been working on finishing the latest beta of Schoolhouse (which I did, yay me).

It's probably full of bugs. I keep thinking it's going to blow up as soon as the beta testers get their hands on it. I wish I could just finish with the bugs already and get it out. I want so bad to see Schoolhouse shine. Hopefully soon.

Anyway, if you're interested in the beta, it's up on the new Schoolhouse website, located under my portfolio or here for those of you who don't like clicking through linked pages.

Hopefully things will start falling into place.

Updates on Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Sappiness

Monday, December 11th, 2006 at 10:39 p.m.

I know, I know. I haven't made a post in a month and a half. How evil of me. I told myself even if nobody on the planet reads my blog I will regularly write on it. Well, me beez a liar.

Life is getting to that point where I'm saying "Where am I going? What is up ahead. And most of all, how am I going to handle it?" It's at this point that I regain control of the car, swerve to a stop and put the philosophical questions on the back burner.

I'm in the midst of finals week here at good ol' KU. I have a linguistics paper and two finals, which is not bad considering. I'll be leaving Friday for a month at home. Ah, I love Christmastime.

My software project(s) are in good standing. My premier project, Schoolhouse, is in it's high-time stage of development for version 2. I'm on-the-ball to get version 2 out before the start of the new semester after promises of October, then November, and now Whenever. Christmas break should give me much needed time to polish off the remaining features.

Well, that's all for this week's edition of my life. Tune in next time for more crazy antics and slapstick.

Warm and Wonderful Welcome

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006 at 11:35 a.m.

This is my second day living here at the University of Kansas. I would have written something yesterday, but I did not yet have Internet access, and still don't for that matter. At the time of this writing I am sitting in the Kansas Union's Oread Bookstore, over by the large West windows overlooking the museum. It's really a great place to sit and work or study. So far I love the university. It's everything I could have hoped for and more. And surpassingly, I was less overwhelmed by emotion the first day than I thought, and I have adapted well.

I am also glad I am living where I do, in the Pearson Scholarship Hall. Think halfway between a dorm and a fraternity and you have a Schol Hall. Everyone who lives there is really nice and great people. There's an overall feeling of community. I was sitting in the dining room with my roommate and a couple of our housemates this morning when I realized it felt like we'd all lived together for a heck of a lot longer than a day and a half.

The activities for the week, aka Hawk Week, are a lot of fun. There's been a trivia contest, UNO tournament, and the Rock-A-Hawk dance, where only a few brave souls actually danced.

Classes start on Thursday, and it's something that I am not really looking forward to. I was talking to a new friend of mine from the hall just a little while ago and saying that it would be perfect if all that class and study and test stuff didn't have to happen and we could just keep the community and free time to do whatever we wanted just as we've done the past couple days.

Whatever the case may be, I am really excited and extremely happy about being here. I can see now that the fun has just begun.

Four Days And Counting

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 at 7:11 a.m.

This Sunday will be moving day. I still can't believe this summer has gone by this fast. I'll be moving away from home...up to Lawrence where I'll know nobody. Well, I know a few people but still. It'll be a big change. Really, I can't wait though. I think I am going to love going to KU. It'll be a big, big step in my life that I could not imaging backing out of for the world.
